ABOUT ME

Benches. To remember someone, something. To take a rest. To wait. A place to chat, for conversation. A place for solitude to reflect and think. A place to cry. A place for friendship. A place to read. A place to write. A place to sleep. A place to eat. A place to drink. A place to smoke. A place from where to view something beautiful… or something not. A tool for exercise. A place for intimacy. A place to view art.
As part of my Final Major Project for my Fine art Foundation course, I am maintaining a blog to help consolidate my research and making all around the topic of Benches! On this blog I will be answering questions like, when and why benches came about/the history of benches and do we humans have a sentimental relationship with them? Through this I aim to explore memorial benches, community organisations centred around 'the bench', how I can make and develop a bench (looking into smart benches), the broad variety of uses we have for benches.
I have chosen this topic because I appreciate a good bench, particularly when there's a beautiful view to face, and also to use as a place to contemplate and be still. I have also chosen just benches, as I aim to challenge my explorations and research by making the most (literally) out of one subject matter. I feel it will be rewarding and an exciting journey, come and join me! And maybe read this blog on a bench?
